Do I Need Excess Liability Coverage? Don’t End Up Like Mary And John!

Posted by How To Choose Insurance | How to choose insurance | Friday 12 March 2010 8:58 pm

John and Mary live in a nice five bedroom home located in California. They?ve lived in their three thousand square foot home for twenty five years and are retired. Their home is paid for and worth about $900,000. They live off their retirement and have hardly no bills to pay. John and Mary have always had a homeowners policy to cover their home in case of fire, theft or other potential losses involving their home. Mary is age 75 and John is age 72. They hope to someday leave their home to their adult children.

On a nice spring day, Mary went to run some errands in her vehicle around her neighborhood. She pulled into the parking lot of her local grocery store. For some reason, after Mary parked her car , her foot slipped off the brake and hit the accelerator instead. Mary?s car went through the wall of the grocery store. Her vehicle continued through the wall of the store and she collided into two pedestrians who were standing in line with their grocery carts.

Both of the pedestrians were rushed to the hospital due to the severity of the injuries they sustained from Mary?s car striking them. Mary was upset about the accident and did not know what she should do. She called her insurance agent the same day of the accident and her agent took her information to start processing her claim.

Months later after the accident, Mary and John found out that the damages filed by the two pedestrians injured from the accident, exceeded the auto insurance liability limits that they carried with their insurance company. John and Mary found out from their adjuster that they would be personally liable for any money damages which exceeded the liability limits that they carried.

The adjuster also told them that the pedestrians attorney did an asset check to see if Mary and John owned property. The attorney found out that they owned a home and would be expecting them to contribute additional monies towards the settlement of the pedestrians claims in addition to the auto insurance liability limits that they carried.

Mary and John were devastated and did not realize that their home the most valuable asset they owned was at stake! They worked all their lives for their home and could not believe that it may be at risk due to the accident. John and Mary did not know they may have avoided contributing monies towards the pedestrians injury claims if they had excess liability coverage or an umbrella policy!

What is excess liability coverage or an umbrella policy? This policy would be liability coverage which would exceed your homeowners or vehicle policy for damages you may be liable for.

The cost of excess liability coverage or an umbrella policy is very minimal for the amount of additional coverage you would receive. You can expect to pay somewhere between $150-$400 annually for this coverage. Consult your insurance company for details. Remember, excess coverage is important for you to consider if your assets are substantial, especially being a homeowner. This extra protection may give you better peace of mind in the long run and will be well worth it!

Tips For Shopping Health Insurance And Life Insurance Online

Posted by How To Choose Insurance | How to choose insurance | Friday 12 March 2010 12:58 pm

If you’ve found your way here, you’ve no doubt decided you need to purchase a new insurance policy or add to your existing level of insurance. It can be a little confusing deciding just what you need. So let’s cover some of the most popular types of insurance.

Critical Illness Insurance

Heart disease, stroke and cancer are just a few of the critical illness that bring a chill to your spine when you are diagnosed. The good news is that with the advances with modern medicine many illness that even recently were almost always fatal can now be treated and life goes on as normal. However, in a worst-case scenario, critical illness insurance helps you cope with the expense of your illness while you are treated and helps your loved ones to go on unencumbered by the financial burden left by a long illness should you lose the battle.

Disability Insurance

One of the most popular forms of supplemental insurance, Disability Insurance pays you a percentage of your income as a benefit should you become disabled. You use these benefits to help with out of pocket expenses not covered by your major medical policy and to pay your household bills while you recover from a temporary disability or a lump sum payment or a life long benefit in the case of a permanent disability.

When shopping for a Life Insurance quote, Term Life Insurance and Whole Life Insurance are the two most popular choices. Let’s explain each of these:

Whole Life Insurance

When shopping for a Whole Life Insurance quote you will find that, the policy remains in force during your entire lifetime as long as the premiums are paid. The type of life insurance also builds what is commonly called a cash value that you borrow under certain circumstance after a period of time.

Term Life Insurance

When shopping for a Term Life Insurance quote keep in mind that this insurance will cover you for a specified time only such as five years. Your premiums do not increase during the term of your policy but will likely increase once it is time to renew the term. Term Life Insurance does not build a cash value.

Term life is generally cheaper if you are younger in age and a good starting point for a safety net for a young family until you’re ready to invest in long-term whole life insurance.

Now you’re fully informed to make the right choices as to just what new or additional insurance to choose for yourself and your family.

Natalie Aranda writes about Occupational Health and health insurance. When shopping for a Whole Life Insurance quote you will find that, the policy remains in force during your entire lifetime as long as the premiums are paid. How Can I Compare Life Insurance Quotes?

Posted by How To Choose Insurance | How to choose insurance | Friday 12 March 2010 8:58 am

The online life insurance companies offer a free service where you can request a free quote for your life insurance needs. This enables you to compare life insurance quotes to see where you can save money with one over the other. To compare life insurance quotes, all you have to do is request a quote from as many companies as you wish and them compare the terms, the premiums, death benefit and clauses contained in each one.

There are also internet sites where you can compare life insurance quotes from up to five different companies at one time. This saves you the time of having to wait for each quote to come in and then print each one off to compare the best rates. The reason for comparing the quotes on life insurance is to make sure you do get the best rates on life insurance. This lets you get the best possible death benefits at the lowest possible premiums.

There is no problem with entering your information on the online life insurance company websites. These companies are looking for your business and are therefore secure sites. Your personal information will not become part of the public domain when you want to compare life insurance quotes. The company does have your best interests at heart and does want to have you as a customer.

To get the best rates on life insurance you need to look at the companies themselves. Choose life insurance companies with a proven track record. This way you know that when you compare the life insurance quote, an agent has checked it and that you won?t run the danger of the company going out of business. Just remember that you do have to look at the length of the term to get an overall picture of the best rates on life insurance. A longer term with low monthly premiums means you won?t have to start your search for the best rates again in the near future.

The best rates are ones that you can afford. You should start out with an amount that you can afford each month and then compare life insurance quotes that come close to that amount. You may have to revise the amount of the life insurance and the length of the term to get the best rates that fit your budget. You can always upgrade to a longer term, a higher payout or even whole life insurance when you can afford it.

To get the best life insurance rates you need to get a few quotes and then compare the life insurance quotes that you have. But it?s not just about price. There?s more to compare than just price.

Life Insurance Quotes

Shopping online for life insurance quotes is becoming increasingly popular in the UK and throughout Europe. No longer do we have to spend hours on the telephone – much to our employer’s disgust – divulging our personal details, only to find that the quotes from the life insurance companies are too expensive or don’t match our needs. Neither do we have to concern ourselves with taking time off work to make appointments with life insurance providers, subjecting ourselves to hours of sales talk. Of course, all of these options are still available to consumers should they prefer them, but many are now voting with their mouse and turning to online sources for life insurance quotes.

Tracking down the best quotes for life insurance

Obtaining life insurance quotes online is quick and easy. We can start our search for life insurance at our convenience any time of the day or night. If we want to find life insurance quotes at 3am in the morning, then we can do! Searching online for quotes also presents us with a great deal of choice. Almost all of the familiar names in the life insurance market have web sites on which their life insurance products are offered, and there are many less familiar names too.

For the consumer, this is great news, as the more life insurance companies there are offering their life insurance products on the Internet, then the more competition there is and so the better the price. When hunting down life insurance, or any type of insurance, it is always best to get a range of quotes as premiums can vary quite dramatically – sometimes by 300% or more! The Internet provides consumers with an efficient tool to do just this, plus they get to read about the benefits of each life insurance plan in the comfort of their own home first.

The quotes process

Most life insurance companies will have links to online quotes request forms. Consumers looking for life insurance quotes will be required to complete the form and submit it online in order to receive quotes. The online forms are generally uncomplicated, often taking only 5-10 minutes to complete.

Once the form is complete it can often be submitted online to the life insurance company. Some insurance companies will come straight back to you with an instant quote, others will revert back with a quote within 24-72 hours, either by e-mail or by telephone. Many companies also back their insurance quotes up with an official quotation by post.

Medical Bills Harassment

Posted by How To Choose Insurance | How to choose insurance | Friday 12 March 2010 12:57 am

Is you mail box harassing you? Does it bring you unwanted medical bills? Do you feel your blood pressure rising and steam coming out of your ears? Do you feel you are alone in this situation? If the answer to the questions is yes, read on.

We are the people of the United States of America and everyday it seems that something we depend on is being taken away or fragmented.

The medical insurance companies are a big part of this disgusting picture. They will try and hold onto their money with their teeth before they will pay your medical bills.

WHY IS THIS?

I call it a game between the medical provider and you the consumer. The insurance companies are aware that many people that work in medical billing are not fully trained in the problems that arrive on a daily basis.

When you work in a medical provider?s office the denials from the insurance companies are massive and complicated. The insurance companies do this on purpose to confuse the professional?s billers as well as you the consumer.

We the people must make a stand. Medical Insurance is extremely expensive and the monthly premiums keep escalating, we the consumers are getting the short end of the stick.

In my E book I try to cover all these pitfalls and help the consumer fight back with sample letters of appeal. These letters can be used for you, the consumer, to question your medical insurance company on how they computed their final payment to your medical provider. An appeal letter can achieve a payment where none was made in the first place or a better payment.

Thank you for reading my article. Please feel free to read my numerous articles.

If you have any questions on medical billing please make a comment. I will answer.

Car Insurance Rates

Posted by How To Choose Insurance | How to choose insurance | Thursday 11 March 2010 8:57 pm

Many car owners avoid taking more auto insurance than the minimum level required by the state simply because of the exorbitant car insurance rates that they have to pay. Car insurance rates are made up of a base rate, after which an addition or reduction takes place, determined by a variety of reasons including those that are beyond the owners? control.

Generally, an auto insurance company looks at the following aspects to decide on a suitable car insurance rate for each car owner:

Age: According to the US Department of Transportation, the probability of young drivers being involved in car accidents is four times higher than that of the elderly. Insurance companies take the view that young driver are more likely to speed, drink and drive, and not wear their seat belts. Families who have young drivers usually pay higher car insurance rates due to this additional risk. Marital status: Insurance companies perceive marriage as a reliable sign of maturity and responsibility, causing car insurance rates to be lower.

Gender: This is another uncontrollable factor affecting car insurance rates. Although bordering on sex discrimination, state laws allow insurance companies to raise car insurance rates for men drivers. Based on car accident statistics, young men below the age of 30 are involved in a great number of accidents compared to women in the same age group.

Location / Neighborhood: The area in which owners live plays an important role. Places with higher probability of car thefts incur higher car insurance rates. Likewise for certain states which have high density traffic, such as New Jersey and New York.

The Car: The more expensive the car is, the more its owner will have to fork out in both collision and comprehensive insurance costs. Collision coverage pays for repair costs, and cars with expensive spare parts increase cost. In addition, more expensive cars are more likely to be stolen.

Amount of Driving: Driving more miles than the annual average increases the car?s exposure to damaging elements and risks of accidents or theft. As exposure increases, so does risk, leading to higher car insurance rates.

Driving and Claims History: Car insurance rates increase with the number of accidents and serious traffic violations a car owner has been involved in before. Besides this, an owner who regularly makes claims to insurance companies tends to have greater car insurance rates.

Credit History: Credit scores measure the types of credits taken, outstanding debt and reliability of past payments, among other things. If owners display stable credit scores over a long term and are able to keep their outstanding credit balances low, car insurance rates can be reduced as well.

It is important for car owners to shop around for the best car insurance rates with all the above factors in mind. Although owners cannot help the uncontrollable demographic factors like age and gender, they can still reduce car insurance rates by working on the controllable aspects like the type of car driven and credit history.

Health Insurance: How To Make A Wise Choice

Posted by How To Choose Insurance | How to choose insurance | Thursday 11 March 2010 12:57 pm

In today’s world of expense and inflation, finding the right health insurance plan can mean the difference between physical prosperity and financial ruin. But with all the insurance companies out there claiming to have the best policies at the best prices, how can you sort through all the hype and find the coverage you need to get–and stay–healthy?

We all need health insurance…and you know your own needs better than anyone. So when insurance salesmen start hunting you down, barraging you with phone calls and filling your mailbox with marketing brochures, don’t give in and buy the first health insurance policy you’re offered. Do your homework ahead of time so you’ll be well informed and able to choose the health insurance plan that fits you best.

To sort through all the offerings and find something you can live with, give these important issues careful consideration when searching for a personalized health insurance plan.

Services

Just knowing your health insurance company is there when you need it can be a priceless assurance. While some companies work hard to serve your needs, others may take your money and treat you impersonally.

If you ever have to face a long-term illness, hospitalization or specialized treatment, worrying about your health insurance coverage is the last thing you’ll want to do. So look now for a provider offering you a wide variety of health insurance services.

Analyze the coverage offered for medications and special equipment, experimental treatments, emergency care and rehabilitation. Find out which services are limited–or not covered at all–and consider whether each health insurance plan is a good match for you and your lifestyle.

Remember, the choices you make now could greatly affect your quality of life in the future.

Choice

What are your options when it comes to doctors, hospitals and other medical providers?

Make sure your present medical providers are listed on health insurance plans if you want to continue using them. If they’re not, this could easily dictate the type of policy you need to look for.

What are your choices regarding specialists and specialty care? If you want to see a specialist, do you need a referral from your primary-care doctor–or can you refer yourself?

Location

Examine where you’ll go for the care you need. Are your doctors, hospitals and other medical care providers near where you live or work? Convenience and accessibility can be worth a lot when you’re in a hurry or don’t want to waste gas driving across town.

What about out-of-town care? If you get deathly ill while visiting Aunt Martha 500 miles from home, will your health insurance cover a needed doctor’s visit or emergency procedure at the nearest doctor’s office or hospital? Or are you required to notify your health insurance company, then go where they direct you?

Costs

While no health insurance plan covers everything, part of your goal should be to analyze your health care needs (both present and future) and choose the policy that includes most of what you need (or may need) at the lowest possible cost. Although no one really knows what the future holds, we can make predictions based on age, health, and medical and family history.

Several costs come into play here, and together they determine your monthly and/or yearly health insurance premiums. Deductibles, coinsurance amounts, copayments, lifetime or yearly plan maximums, and cost of health care outside a particular network all make a difference in the price you pay for your health insurance. Find out exactly what you’re facing with each of these issues, and use the answers you get to compare policies side-by-side.

Using a consumer shopping service like www.insureme.com also helps defray costs. Online insurance shopping services like InsureMe can help you get competitive, affordable quotes from qualified health insurers in your area. This can save you time and money in your search for the best health insurance policy.

Getting Down to Basics

When looking for the right health insurance policy, get down to basics. Analyze your options and weigh significant factors like services, choice, location and costs. Then make a wise, informed decision–and protect yourself for years to come!

Cheap Car Insurance For Young Drivers ? What To Look For

Posted by How To Choose Insurance | How to choose insurance | Thursday 11 March 2010 8:57 am

Most young drivers have the option of obtaining car insurance through their parents? car insurance policies. This is a great option as car insurance rates for most all drivers are based on age, years of driving experience, and driving records.

Yet, many young and new drivers need to search for car insurance elsewhere, as not all young and new drivers can obtain car insurance through their parents? car insurance policies. This can prove to be difficult as young and new drivers do not have age or driving experience on their sides, meaning their car insurance rates are usually higher than older, more experienced drivers.

Still, it is possible to find cheap car insurance for young divers. Below are four factors to consider when looking for cheap car insurance for young drivers.

1. Age requirements. Find a plan that specifically offers cheap car insurance for young drivers. For example, some car insurance providers target young female drivers age 17-years-old and older and young male drivers age 19-years-old and older.
2. Discounts. Many car insurance companies will offer certain discounts for young and new drivers. When comparing car insurance providers, ask about such discounts.
3. Immediate coverage. You do not want to purchase a car insurance policy that is not going to be in effect right away. Make sure to ask the car insurance agent if the plan will begin immediately, or if there is a waiting period.
4. Flexible payment options. Not all drivers are going to be completely financially stable; especially new and young drivers. Try to find a car insurance provider that will sympathize with your needs and offer you a ?grace period? when it comes to payments.

With all the concerns young and new drivers already have (buying a car, practicing driving, learning the rules of the road, driving responsibly, car maintenance, etc.) finding cheap car insurance for young drivers does not have to be one of them.
